Using Pram Race funds to support local organisations

The Windlesham Pram Race is run each year with the sole purpose of raising money for a wide variety of deserving causes in the local community. After retaining sufficient funds to prepare for the 2018 race the trustees are distributing over £9,300 to a wide range of local organisations. As in previous years, a significant portion was allocated to the local organisations designated by the excellent volunteer marshals who give up their time to make the race happen.

Many thanks to all our residents and the visitors who gave such wonderful donations on Boxing Day. The local organisations that received grants from Pram Race funds this year include:

Bagshot Playing Fields

Lightwater District Guides/Rangers

SHBC Mayor’s Charity Appeal

St John’s Ambulance, Chobham

St John’s Church, Windlesham

Stipperstones – Welmede Housing

Surrey Border Lions Club

Valley End Cricket Club

Windlesham Bowls Club

Windlesham Branch – British Legion

Windlesham Darby & Joan Club

Windlesham Drama Group

Windlesham Fete

Windlesham Field of Remembrance

Windlesham over 60’s luncheon Club

Windlesham Scouts

Windlesham United Charities

The security, stewarding and equipment costs of operating the Pram Race safely continue to increase. We would not be able to distribute so much money to the community without the amazing of our sponsors, Strutt & Parker, and the other organisations like Balfour Beatty, Howard’s Self Drive, Kamkorp Park, Kircher Building Services, St John’s Ambulance and especially Wooldridge that continue to provide such generous support for the race. In addition, each of the pubs and club contributed to our costs of delivering a safe and fun event.

For several years the same small group of volunteers from our community have helped prepare and run the Pram Race on Boxing Day. Our plans for this year’s race are underway but some of that group are not available. To raise similar funds in 2018, the committee needs a minimum of four adult volunteers who can give some of their time in December working with us to complete the final race preparations and to help deliver the event safely on Boxing Day. Community events don’t run themselves so if you can help us deliver Pram Race 2018 please contact me as soon as possible at
