Our Story & Purpose
Since 1978, the Windlesham Society has been the independent voice of our village. While our name stems from the ancient ‘homestead on the Windle Brook,’ our work is firmly about today. We are a non-political, charitable organisation run entirely by local volunteers who care about the character of Windlesham, Surrey.
From our busy roads to our thriving community spaces, we act as a "friendly guardian" protecting our beautiful environment and ensuring that our unique village heritage is enhanced, not lost, amidst modern change.
What We Do & How We Support Our Village
Planning & Advocacy
We scrutinise local planning applications. From major developments to small-scale changes, we advocate for sustainable growth that respects our village boundaries.
Community Connection
Through our Meet the Councillor sessions and regular updates, we bridge the gap between residents and local government, ensuring your concerns are heard at the Borough and County levels.
Environmental Care
Our biannual Village Litter Picks, monitoring of developments on our green spaces, and observing SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace) provisioning help keep Windlesham a village for everyone to enjoy.
Preserving Village Landmarks
We don't just talk about heritage; we own it. Thanks to member donations, the Society owns and maintains the iconic red telephone box in the heart of the village. This local landmark has been refurbished and repurposed to serve the community, housing a life-saving defibrillator and a popular community book exchange.
The Society is powered by the time, knowledge, and efforts of our committee, a group of local residents who volunteer to keep our village thriving.
