Record-Breaking Windlesham Society Litter Pick - 21st March
What a fantastic afternoon for our village back in March!
Under blue skies and early spring sunshine, over 40 local residents came together in a truly record-breaking turnout to help care for Windlesham. Volunteers covered virtually every road in and around the village, demonstrating what can be achieved when the community pulls together.
We were delighted to be joined by our local MP, Al Pinkerton, who rolled up his sleeves and joined the effort-helping collect litter along Chertsey Road beyond The Brickmakers.
The results were remarkable:
- Over 50 bags of litter collected
- Numerous larger items removed that couldn't fit into standard bags
- 14 fly-tips identified and reported via FixMyStreet
- Additional issues such as damaged road signs and abandoned sandbags flagged for action
Even a full-sized wheelie bin proved too small to contain everything gathered highlighting both the scale of the issue and the impact of collective action.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, helped promote the event, or supported on the day-especially Cllr. Pat for running the welcome desk. Your efforts make a real difference in keeping Windlesham a place we are all proud to call home.
Let's Keep It Going - While organised litter picks are vital, the real change comes from ongoing community responsibility-whether that's picking up litter when you see it or encouraging others to do the same.
Next Litter Pick - Saturday 5th September
We look forward to seeing even more of you there!
