The New Woodlands Lane SANG is Officially Open!

The Windlesham Society committee members recently joined local residents and representatives from Charles Church and Persimmon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open our village's newest green space, on the 17th June 2026.

It was wonderful to see so many families and four-legged friends exploring the new trails, and we are incredibly pleased that this dedicated pocket of nature is now fully accessible to our community.

Important Access Tip for Visitors

We are aware that there is a bit of confusion regarding how to enter the grounds, so here is some extra useful information about how to access the SANG.

  • The Main Vehicle Gate: Located on Woodlands Lane directly opposite Crownfield Court, this large gate is securely locked to vehicles and is not an entry point.

  • Where to Enter: To access the walking trails, please use the pedestrian entry gates located further up Woodlands Lane, moving towards the M3 bridge.

Looking to the Future: Our Q&A with the Developers

Following the launch, the Society compiled some of the common questions raised by visitors on the day and put them directly to the developers. Here is the latest update on how this community asset is being managed:

1. Site Security & Protection

Given the history of unauthorised encampments in the area, residents expressed concerns about the main gate's security.

  • The Update: The developers have assured us they are actively collaborating with the local council and their maintenance contractors to strengthen security measures, ensuring the park remains protected while remaining open to walkers.

2. Tree Planting & Summer Care

While the some of the planting is thriving, several young trees planted this spring along the bund are struggling with dry weather.

  • The Update: A summer watering schedule is currently in place. The landscaping team will continue to monitor the site and has committed to replacing any trees that fail to thrive during the next planting season.

  • How you can help: The developers have invited regular walkers who wish to support the space to water any trees they see look particularly thirsty when along on their walks!

3. Dog Bins & Maintenance

Visitors asked if a third waste bin could be added so one sits at every gate.

  • The Update: There are currently two bins installed across the site. The management company believes this is sufficient for now but will monitor the situation. They noted that adding extra bins increases ongoing collection fees, which will ultimately impact the future residents or the Parish Council if the asset is adopted later.

We will continue to work closely alongside the site managers to ensure this beautiful space is cared for, secured, and enjoyed by everyone in Windlesham for years to come.
